1. About JDM City Virginia & Our Products
a) Who is JDM City Virginia?
JDM City Virginia (JDM City Virginia LLC) imports and sells used JDM engines and transmissions from our warehouse and showroom at 9026 Euclid Ave Unit E, Manassas, VA 20110. Our team has over 20 years of experience in the Japanese Domestic Market industry. Learn more on our About Us page.
b) What do "JDM" and "KDM" mean?
JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market: engines, transmissions, and parts from vehicles originally built for and sold in Japan. KDM stands for Korean Domestic Market: engines from vehicles built for the Korean market. Many share platforms with US-market models, but details such as wiring, sensors, and emissions equipment can differ (see Section 8).
c) What do you sell?
- JDM Engines: For Acura, Honda, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda, Nissan, Scion, Subaru, and Toyota.
- JDM Transmissions: For Acura, Honda, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda, Nissan, Scion, Subaru, and Toyota.
- KDM Engines: For Hyundai and Kia.
- JDM Parts: Front clips, seats, wheels, and exterior and interior parts.
d) Are your parts new, used, or rebuilt?
Unless a listing clearly states otherwise, every product we sell is a used, pre-owned part removed from a donor vehicle. We do not manufacture, remanufacture, or rebuild the parts we sell. Signs of prior use, such as surface rust, minor oil seepage, aged hoses and seals, and cosmetic wear, are normal for used parts and are not defects. See our Disclaimer for details.
e) Where do your engines come from?
Our JDM engines and transmissions are handpicked and imported directly from Japan to our warehouse in Manassas, Virginia.
f) Are your engines tested before they are listed?
Yes. Every engine is compression tested and visually inspected before it is listed. Where available, the product page shows the compression reading for each cylinder (for example, "CYL 1: 175 PSI"). These results reflect our test at the time of testing. They are not a guarantee of future performance, and readings can differ after transport or with a different gauge. If you have a question about a result, ask us before you buy.
g) How accurate is the mileage on your listings?
Listings show an approximate mileage range (for example, 45,000–55,000 miles) based on the information available at the time of import. Many of our JDM engines are low-mileage imports, averaging around 45,000–60,000 miles. An engine removed from a vehicle has no odometer of its own, so mileage cannot be independently verified and is not a guarantee. See our Disclaimer.
h) Why do JDM engines often have lower mileage?
In Japan, strict vehicle inspection rules (known as "shaken") and the rising cost of keeping older cars on the road often lead owners to replace their vehicles sooner than drivers in the US. As a result, many imported engines come from vehicles that were driven fewer miles. Every engine is different, so always check the listing.
i) What comes with an engine?
It depends on the listing. Some engines include items such as the intake and exhaust manifolds, alternator, or power steering pump, while "engine only" listings may include fewer accessories. Check the listing's description and photos, and ask us to confirm whether a specific sensor, bracket, or harness is included before you buy.
j) Can I see an engine before I buy it?
Yes. You can inspect engines in person at our Manassas warehouse and showroom. Please call ahead so we can have the engine ready. You can also ask us for more photos or details by phone or email.
k) Are you affiliated with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, or other manufacturers?
No. JDM City Virginia is an independent seller of used automotive parts. Brand and model names are used only to identify compatible vehicles and the donor vehicles parts came from. See our Legal Notice.
2. Ordering
a) How do I place an order?
Add the item to your cart and complete payment through our secure checkout on this website. If you would like help checking fitment first, or help placing your order, call us at (703) 479-7400 during business hours.
b) How will I know my order was received?
After a successful payment, you receive an order confirmation email with your order number. If it does not arrive, check your spam or junk folder, then contact us.
c) How long does order processing take?
Orders are processed within 1–2 business days after payment. Orders are not processed on Sundays. Before your order ships, we may contact you to confirm your VIN, fitment, delivery address, and phone number.
d) Can I change my order after placing it?
Contact us as soon as possible, before your order ships. After the freight carrier collects your order, changes such as a new delivery address may not be possible, and the carrier may charge extra. We will tell you about any extra charge before we bill it to you.
e) Can I cancel my order?
Yes, if it has not shipped. Our Refund Policy states: "Orders can be cancelled if they have not been shipped." Local pickup orders can be cancelled until they are collected. Email us with the subject line "Order Cancellation Request" and your order number, or call us. A cancellation takes effect when we confirm it by email. We refund your payment to your original payment method, except any deposit, which is non-refundable. See our Cancellation Policy.
f) Can I put a deposit on a part?
In some cases, our team may agree to hold a part for you with a deposit. Deposits are non-refundable ("No deposit refunds," as our Refund Policy states), so confirm fitment and the deposit terms with our team before you pay. See our Payment Policy.
3. Shipping & Delivery
a) Where do you ship?
We ship to all lower 48 US states. Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international destinations is available by custom quote, so please contact us before ordering. For international orders, the buyer pays any customs duties, taxes, and import fees.
b) How much does shipping cost?
Orders over $2,500 ship free by standard freight to addresses in the lower 48 states. For other orders and destinations, freight is quoted for your item and delivery address, and you will know the cost before your order ships. Expedited freight and additional delivery services may cost extra, and we tell you about any additional charge before we bill it. See our Shipping Policy.
c) How long does delivery take?
For the lower 48 states, allow 1–2 business days for processing and typically 2–7 business days for freight transit, so delivery usually takes about 3–9 business days after payment. These times are estimates, not guarantees.
d) How are engines and transmissions shipped?
Engines and transmissions are strapped to a reinforced pallet with protective wrapping and shipped by LTL (less-than-truckload) freight with residential liftgate delivery. The carrier may contact you to schedule delivery, and an adult must be present to receive and sign for the shipment. The pallet is delivered to the curb or the end of your driveway, not inside your home or garage, so have equipment or helpers ready to move it.
e) How do I track my order?
We email you the tracking details when your order ships. Freight tracking updates less often than parcel tracking. If your tracking has not updated for several business days, contact us and we will follow up with the carrier.
f) What if my shipment arrives damaged?
- Inspect the pallet and the part before you sign.
- Write any visible damage on the delivery receipt (bill of lading) before signing.
- Take clear photos of the pallet, wrapping, and part.
- Contact us as soon as possible with your order number, the photos, and the delivery receipt.
Do not install a part that appears damaged until you have spoken with us. We will work with the freight carrier on a damage claim. If a shipment arrives badly damaged, call us before refusing it.
g) Can I refuse a delivery?
Refusing a delivery is not a way to cancel an order. Under our Refund Policy, all refused or returned orders are charged 35% of the invoice unit amount for restocking fees, plus all freight charges to return the item to our warehouse. If there is a problem with your delivery, call us first.
h) Can you ship faster?
Expedited freight may be available for your location. Contact us before ordering to check availability and cost.
i) Can I ship my order to my mechanic or repair shop?
Yes, to any valid street address in our shipping area. Make sure someone there can receive, inspect, and sign for the shipment and note any visible damage on the delivery receipt.
4. Local Pickup & Warehouse Visits
a) Can I pick up my order in person?
Yes. You can collect your order from our warehouse at 9026 Euclid Ave Unit E, Manassas, VA 20110, during business hours. Please call or email us first to arrange a pickup time so your order is ready. Our team loads your purchase directly onto your vehicle or trailer, and no shipping charge applies.
b) What should I bring for pickup?
- A Suitable Vehicle: A truck or trailer rated for the size and weight of the part.
- Straps or Tie-Downs: You are responsible for securing the load before you drive away.
- Photo ID: We may ask to see a valid photo ID that matches the name on the order. If someone else will collect your order, contact us before pickup.
c) When are you open?
Monday–Friday: 9am–5pm and Saturday: 9am–3pm (Eastern Time). We are closed on Sundays.
5. Returns, Refunds & Cancellations
a) What is your return policy?
Our Refund Policy states: "All sales of parts are final." There are no refunds or exchanges on parts, including front clips, seats, wheels, body, interior and exterior parts, ECUs and electronics, and accessories. Engines can be returned, except performance engines, which are non-returnable as stated in our Warranty Policy. A return must be legitimate and must comply with the terms of our warranty. The key terms are:
- Time Limit: A return has to be requested within 30 days from the date of purchase.
- Return File: You must contact us by email to create a return file before sending anything back.
- Condition: The item must be in the same condition it was sold, fully assembled, and must match the original pictures.
- Freight: Return freight must be prepaid by the customer, and shipping charges are not refundable.
- Inspection: Returned items are inspected and tested. Signing for a returned item does not mean your claim has been accepted.
- Outcome: If your claim is valid, we will notify you for a replacement or refund. If it is not valid, no replacement or refund is issued.
Please read the full Refund Policy before you order.
b) What if I ordered the wrong part?
The buyer is responsible for fitment, as stated in our Warranty Policy. If your order has not shipped, you can cancel it under our Cancellation Policy. Once it has shipped, our Refund Policy applies, and refused or returned orders are charged the restocking fee and freight described below. To avoid this, send us your VIN so our team can help check compatibility before you buy.
c) Is there a restocking fee?
Yes. All refused or returned orders are charged 35% of the invoice unit amount for restocking fees, plus all freight charges to return the item to our warehouse. There is no fee to cancel an order before it ships.
d) Can I return a part that has been installed?
Any return must be legitimate and comply with our Warranty Policy. The item must be returned fully assembled, in the same condition it was sold, with all of the parts included in the sale, and it must match the original pictures. Keep any parts or components you remove from the item for the period of the warranty, because we must receive all of the parts included in the sale for the warranty to be valid.
e) How long do refunds take?
For a cancelled order, we send your refund after we confirm the cancellation. For a return, we send it after the item has been inspected and tested and your claim is found valid. Refunds go to your original payment method, and the time it takes to appear on your statement depends on your bank or payment provider.
6. Warranty
a) Do your products come with a warranty?
- Used Replacement Engines & Transmissions: Covered by a limited warranty.
- Used Performance Engines & Transmissions: Covered by a shorter limited warranty.
- Rotary Engines (Mazda RX-7 13BT / 13BTT / 20B): No warranty.
- ECUs, Wiring & Electronics: Sold as-is.
- Accessories: Final sale and sold as-is.
- Body Parts, Interior Parts, Seats, Wheels & Suspension: Sold as-is.
Warranty periods and full terms are in our Warranty Policy, unless your sales receipt specifies otherwise.
b) When does the warranty start?
For freight orders and out-of-state purchases, the warranty period begins on the date the item is delivered. Keep your delivery receipt and tracking details as a record of your delivery date.
c) What do I need to do to keep my warranty valid?
- Certified Mechanic: Have the engine or transmission installed by a certified mechanic.
- Required Parts: Install the required replacement parts listed in our Warranty Policy before installing the engine, and complete any required system overhauls.
- No Prohibited Modifications: Avoid the modifications our Warranty Policy prohibits.
- Maintenance & Records: Follow the maintenance requirements in our Warranty Policy and keep your receipts and records.
d) What does the warranty not cover?
Items not covered include labor costs, towing fees, rental vehicles, lost income, damage to other vehicle components, damage caused by improper installation, and the non-covered parts listed in our Warranty Policy. See our Warranty Policy and Section 7 of our Legal Notice.
e) How do I make a warranty claim?
Follow the Warranty Claim Procedure in our Warranty Policy. Contact us by email with your order number, a description of the problem, photos, and your mechanic's report. The customer pays return freight. Returned items are inspected and tested, and if your claim is valid, we will notify you for a replacement or refund.
7. Payment & Pricing
a) What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Apple Pay, and Shop Pay, plus PayPal where shown at checkout. If you need to pay another way, for example for a local pickup order, contact us before you order. See our Payment Policy.
b) Can I pay over time?
No. We do not offer financing, installment plans, or layaway. Orders are paid in full at checkout, unless our team has agreed to a deposit with you.
c) When is my card charged?
Your payment method is charged when you place your order.
d) Do you charge sales tax?
We collect sales tax where the law requires it. It is calculated at checkout based on your delivery address, or on our Virginia location for pickup orders, and is shown before you pay. If you believe your purchase is tax-exempt (for example, for resale), contact us before you order.
e) Are there any hidden fees?
No. The item price, any shipping charge, and sales tax are shown or confirmed before you pay. If you request extra delivery services, or a delivery fails because no one is available or the address is wrong, the carrier may charge extra fees, and we will tell you before we bill them. If your card was issued outside the United States, your bank may charge its own foreign transaction fees.
f) Is it safe to pay on your website?
Yes. Checkout runs in Shopify's PCI DSS Level 1 compliant payment environment, and JDM City Virginia does not receive or store your full card number from online checkout. We will never ask you to send your full card number by email.
g) My card was declined. What should I do?
Your bank or payment provider decides whether to approve a payment. Check that your billing address matches your bank's records, contact your bank, or try another accepted payment method. If you still need help, call us.
h) Can prices change?
Prices are subject to change without notice. The price shown at checkout when you place your order applies to that order. If an item is listed with an incorrect price because of an error, we may cancel the order and refund the full amount you paid.
8. Fitment & Compatibility
a) How do I know if an engine or transmission fits my vehicle?
- Engine or Transmission Code: Match the code to your vehicle's factory specifications, not just the make, model, and year.
- Drive & Transmission Type: Confirm the drive type (2WD, 4WD, or AWD) and transmission type (automatic or manual).
- Send Us Your VIN: Our team can help verify VIN compatibility, compression, and shipping details before you buy.
Our help is a courtesy based on the information available to us. Final responsibility for fitment remains with the buyer, as stated in our Warranty Policy.
b) How are JDM engines different from US-market engines?
JDM engines are built for vehicles sold in Japan. They often share the same basic design as US-market engines, but details can differ, including the ECU, wiring harness and sensor connectors, emissions equipment, intake and exhaust parts, engine mounts, and accessories such as the A/C compressor or power steering pump. Your mechanic may need to transfer some parts from your original engine or use a compatible ECU. Have your mechanic compare the two engines before installation.
c) Will you check my VIN for me?
Yes. Send us your VIN by email or read it to us by phone, and our team will help check compatibility before you buy.
9. Installation
a) Do I need a professional mechanic to install it?
Yes, for warranty coverage. Under our Warranty Policy, engines and transmissions must be installed by a certified mechanic, with the required replacement parts installed, for the warranty to apply. Installation is the buyer's responsibility.
b) What should my mechanic do before installing?
- Inspect on Arrival: Check the part for shipping damage and report any problem to us promptly.
- Replace Required Parts: Install the required replacement parts listed in our Warranty Policy.
- Check Fluids & Wear Items: Used parts may contain old fluids, and hoses, seals, and gaskets may need replacing.
- Compare With Your Original: Confirm sensors, connectors, mounts, and accessories, and transfer any parts your vehicle needs.
10. Emissions & State Rules
a) Will a JDM engine pass emissions in my state?
It depends on your state, your vehicle, and the engine. Before you buy, check that the engine can be legally installed where your vehicle is registered and that your vehicle will pass any required emissions and safety inspections after installation. Smog and emissions compliance is not the responsibility of JDM City Virginia.
b) What are the rules in Virginia?
Vehicles registered in the Northern Virginia emissions inspection area (the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park) must pass an emissions inspection. Virginia also requires an annual safety inspection.
c) Can I legally install a JDM engine in California?
California Air Resources Board (CARB) rules strictly limit engine changes in on-road vehicles. Many JDM engine swaps are not legal in California without a CARB Executive Order or Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) referee approval. California buyers must confirm compliance before buying.
d) What about other states?
Many states require emissions or safety inspections, and some, such as New York, have adopted California's emission standards for many newer vehicles. Check with your state's motor vehicle or environmental agency, or a licensed mechanic, before ordering. Section 6 of our Legal Notice summarizes the rules in several states.
11. Privacy & Website Help
a) Do you sell my personal information?
We do not sell your personal information for money. We use Google Analytics and work with advertising partners Google, Meta (Facebook), and Microsoft (Bing), and some state laws may treat this as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. You can opt out at any time on our Don't Sell or Share My Personal Information page, or by turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser.
b) What cookies does your website use?
Our Cookie Policy explains the cookies used on this website and how to control them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
c) I'm having trouble using the website. Can you help?
Yes. Call or email us and our team can describe a part, read you the details from a product page, check an order, and help you complete your purchase. See our Accessibility Statement.
