JDM City Virginia Cookie Policy & Tracking Technologies

Last Updated: October 1, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how JDM City Virginia LLC ("JDM City Virginia," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies on this website, why we use them, and how you can control them. It is part of our Privacy Policy and should be read together with it.

This website runs on Shopify, the e-commerce platform that powers our catalog, cart, and checkout. When you browse our used JDM engines and transmissions, KDM engines, and used JDM parts, your browser may receive cookies set by our store and by outside services that help us measure traffic, advertise, and take payments.

1. What Cookies Are & How They Work

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves in your browser when you visit it on a computer, phone, or tablet. It usually holds a random identifier. When you open another page or come back later, your browser sends the cookie back, so the website can recognize your device and remember things such as the items in your cart.

  • Session Cookies: Temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser.
  • Persistent Cookies: Cookies that stay on your device for a set period or until you delete them. As our Privacy Policy explains, the persistent cookies used on this website generally expire between 30 minutes and two years.
  • First-Party & Third-Party Cookies: First-party cookies are set by this website itself. Third-party cookies are set by another company's service that runs on our pages, such as an analytics or advertising provider.
  • Pixels, Tags & Local Storage: Pixels and tags are small pieces of code that report an event, such as a page view or a purchase, back to a service. Local storage is browser storage that works much like a cookie. These often work together with cookies.

Combined with details such as your IP address or order history, cookie data can count as "personal information" under several US state privacy laws. We treat it with the same care as other personal information described in our Privacy Policy.

2. The Categories of Cookies We Use

Our Privacy Policy describes the functional, performance, advertising, and social media cookies used on this website. We group them into the five categories below. Only strictly necessary cookies are required for the store to work. You can limit or refuse the others using the choices in Section 5.

  • Strictly Necessary (Essential): Hold your cart between pages, carry you securely through checkout, help prevent fraud, and remember your privacy choices. The store cannot work properly without them, and they are not used for advertising.
  • Preference (Functional): Remember settings such as your country and currency. If you block them, the store still works, but some settings may reset on each visit.
  • Analytics (Performance): Show us, in aggregate, how visitors use this website, such as which engine and transmission listings get the most views and how people find us, so we can improve our listings and navigation.
  • Advertising (Marketing): Help us measure our ads and show you more relevant ads on other websites and apps, such as a reminder about an engine you viewed. As our Privacy Policy explains, we share information with advertising partners for behavioral advertising.
  • Social Media: May be set by social media platforms, such as Facebook (Meta), when you interact with social media content connected to this website or are signed in to those platforms. They are governed by each platform's own privacy policy.

3. Cookies Set by Our Store Platform (Shopify)

Because this website is built on Shopify, Shopify may set some or all of the cookies below, depending on the pages you view, where you are located, and the choices you make. Shopify sets these cookies and controls their names and durations. The durations shown are approximate, and the list may change as Shopify updates its cookies. The current list is in Shopify's Cookie Policy.

a) Strictly Necessary Cookies

  • _shopify_essential: Holds the session, cart, checkout, and anti-tampering data the store needs to work securely. About 1 year.
  • cart: Remembers the items in your shopping cart. About 2 weeks.
  • cart_currency: Keeps your next cart in the same currency after you complete a checkout. About 2 weeks.
  • localization: Matches the store and cart to your country. About 1 year.
  • _tracking_consent: Stores the cookie and privacy choices you make where a choice is offered. About 1 year.
  • shopify_pay: Helps returning Shop Pay users sign in at checkout. About 1 year.
  • discount_code: Holds a discount code from a promotional link until checkout. Session only.

b) Analytics Cookies

  • _shopify_analytics: Records analytics data about how the storefront and checkout are used. About 1 year.
  • _shopify_y: Recognizes a returning browser for Shopify analytics. About 1 year.
  • _shopify_s: Groups your page views into a single visit. About 30 minutes.
  • _landing_page and _orig_referrer: Record the first page you visited and the website that sent you to us. About 2 weeks.

c) Marketing Cookies

  • _shopify_marketing: Records marketing data, such as which campaigns bring visitors to our store. About 1 year.

4. Third-Party Services & Their Cookies

We may use outside services that place their own cookies, pixels, or tags on this website. We do not control those cookies. Each provider sets its own cookie names and durations and is governed by its own privacy policy.

a) Analytics: Google Analytics

As stated in our Privacy Policy, we use Google Analytics (Google LLC) to understand, in aggregate, how visitors find and use this website, such as pages viewed, traffic sources, and checkout steps. It may set cookies such as _ga, which can last up to two years. See Section 5 to opt out.

b) Advertising Partners: Google, Meta (Facebook) & Microsoft (Bing)

Our Privacy Policy explains that we share information with advertising partners Google, Facebook (Meta), and Bing (Microsoft) for behavioral advertising. These partners may place cookies, pixels, or tags on this website that record events such as product views, items added to the cart, and completed purchases.

  • Google (Google Ads): May measure which ad clicks lead to orders and show our ads to people who visited our store. Manage your choices in Google Ads Settings.
  • Meta (Facebook & Instagram): May measure our ads and show them on Facebook and Instagram, for example through the Meta Pixel. Manage your choices in your Facebook or Instagram ad preferences.
  • Microsoft (Bing): May measure our ads and show them on Bing and the Microsoft Advertising network. Manage your choices in your Microsoft account's privacy settings.

Under some state privacy laws, letting advertising partners collect information through cookies may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, or "targeted advertising." You can opt out at any time, as explained in Sections 5 through 8.

c) Payment Providers at Checkout

  • Shopify Checkout & Shop Pay: Our checkout runs in Shopify's PCI DSS Level 1 compliant environment. Shopify and its payment processors may use cookies to process card payments (Visa, Mastercard, and Discover), detect fraud, and let returning Shop Pay users check out faster.
  • Apple Pay: If you choose Apple Pay, Apple may process the information needed to complete the payment under its own privacy policy.
  • PayPal (Where Shown at Checkout): If you choose PayPal, PayPal may set its own cookies to sign you in, confirm the payment, and prevent fraud.

Cookies used by the payment option you choose are strictly necessary to complete your payment. JDM City Virginia does not receive or store your full card number from online checkout.

5. How to Manage Cookies

You can combine the options below. Blocking strictly necessary cookies, however, will stop the cart and checkout from working.

a) Cookie Banner

Shopify may show a cookie banner to visitors in some regions. If you see one, you can use it to accept or decline optional cookies. Your choice is saved in the _tracking_consent cookie, and the banner may appear again if you clear your cookies.

b) Browser Settings

Every major browser lets you see, block, and delete cookies. Menu names change between versions, so check your browser's help pages if these steps do not match exactly.

  • Google Chrome: Open Settings, choose Privacy and security, then open the third-party cookie settings or choose Delete browsing data.
  • Safari: On a Mac, open Safari Settings, choose Privacy, and select Manage Website Data. On an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app, find Safari, and tap Clear History and Website Data.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Open Settings, choose Privacy & Security, and go to Cookies and Site Data.
  • Microsoft Edge: Open Settings, choose Cookies and site permissions, and select Manage and delete cookies and site data.

Blocking only third-party cookies is a good middle ground: the store keeps working, and many advertising cookies are stopped.

c) Advertising & Analytics Opt-Out Tools

These tools usually save an opt-out cookie in your browser, so you may need to opt out again if you clear your cookies or switch browsers or devices. You may still see ads, but they may be less related to your interests.

d) Opt Out of Sale, Sharing & Targeted Advertising

Visit our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, email us as described in Section 8, or turn on Global Privacy Control (Section 6).

e) If You Block All Cookies

Your cart will not keep items between pages, you will not be able to complete an online checkout, and security checks may limit some features. You can still call or email our team, or visit our Manassas warehouse and showroom to inspect engines in person.

6. Global Privacy Control & Do Not Track

a) Global Privacy Control (GPC)

Global Privacy Control is a setting in some browsers and extensions that sends an automatic opt-out signal to the websites you visit. Our store platform, Shopify, honors GPC. When your browser sends a GPC signal, it turns on an opt-out of data sale or sharing, and of targeted advertising, by Shopify and third parties for that browser. Because GPC applies only to the browser that sends it, email us as described in Section 8 if you also want the opt-out applied to the information linked to your email address or orders.

b) Do Not Track (DNT)

"Do Not Track" is an older browser setting. There is no industry standard for how websites should respond to it, so this website does not currently respond to DNT signals. Please use GPC or the other choices in Section 5 instead.

7. State Privacy Laws & Your Cookie Rights

Several states give residents rights over how cookie data and other personal information are used. Each law applies only to businesses that meet certain thresholds, so the rights below apply where those laws apply to JDM City Virginia. Every US visitor can use the opt-out choices on this page.

a) Virginia (Our Home State)

  • Law: Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), Va. Code § 59.1-575 et seq., where it applies.
  • Your Rights: To confirm whether your personal data is processed, and to access, correct, delete, and get a portable copy of it.
  • Opt-Outs: To opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
  • Appeals: If we decline your request, you may appeal (see Section 8). If your appeal is denied, you may contact the Virginia Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section.

b) California

  • Law: California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.100 et seq., where it applies.
  • Your Rights: To know what personal information is collected about you, including cookie data, and to access, correct, and delete it.
  • Opt-Outs: To opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, including cookie data used for cross-context behavioral advertising, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information. Learn more on the California Attorney General's CCPA page.

c) Other States

Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Oregon, Texas, and other states have similar, though not identical, privacy laws, including the right to opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of personal data. Where these laws apply, residents can use the choices on this page and the request process in Section 8.

8. Your Data Rights & How to Submit a Request

Depending on where you live, you may have the rights below over personal information we hold about you, including cookie data. We aim to honor them for all US customers wherever we reasonably can.

  • Access & Correction: Ask what personal information we have about you and receive a copy, or ask us to fix inaccurate details.
  • Deletion: Ask us to delete personal information we collected from you. We may need to keep some records, for example to complete an order, handle a warranty or return claim, or meet tax and legal duties.
  • Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising.
  • Equal Treatment: We will not deny you goods, charge you a different price, or give you a lower level of service because you used a privacy right.

a) How to Submit a Request

  1. Send Your Request: Email jdmcityvirginia@gmail.com with the subject line "Cookie Privacy Request," or use our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page to opt out.
  2. Tell Us What You Need: Include your full name, your state of residence, the email address you used for orders, any order number, and the right you want to use.
  3. Verification: For access, correction, and deletion requests, we confirm your identity by matching your details against our records. We will never ask for your full card number or Social Security number. Opt-out requests do not require identity verification. Where the law allows, an authorized agent may act for you with your signed permission.
  4. Our Response: We act on opt-out requests as soon as possible and within 15 business days. We answer access, correction, and deletion requests within 45 days, which we may extend once by another 45 days where the law allows. We will tell you if we need more time.
  5. Appeals: If we decline all or part of your request, reply with the subject line "Privacy Request Appeal." We will respond within the time your state's law requires (for Virginia residents, within 60 days).

9. Children's Privacy

This website sells used automotive parts and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information, including through cookies, from children under 13, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please email jdmcityvirginia@gmail.com and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Updates to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we add or remove a service that uses cookies, when Shopify changes its cookies, or when privacy laws change. The current version is always published on this page, and the "Last Updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a material change, we will notify affected customers where the law requires.

This Cookie Policy forms part of our Privacy Policy and Legal Notice and is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without limiting any privacy rights you have under the laws of your state.
